In Leviticus chapter 8 we read the story of how Moses followed the commandments God gave in how to consecrate Aaron and his sons for consecration as priests in service to the Lord and the people of Israel. First the sin offering was made and then an offering of consecration was made to set Aaron and his sons apart.

Then in chapter nine Aaron follows the commandment to make an offering and God would appear to him.

So Aaron makes the sin offering and peace offerings on behalf of the people.

22 Then Aaron lifted his hands toward the people and blessed them. And having sacrificed the sin offering, the burnt offering and the fellowship offering, he stepped down.

23 Moses and Aaron then went into the tent of meeting. When they came out, they blessed the people; and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. 24 Fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell facedown.

Leviticus 9:22-24 NIV

It is here that we first see Aaron, (or anyone for that matter) acting as high priest.

This is a type of Jesus Christ who is our great High Priest.

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven,[f] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16 NIV

So in our journey to find Jesus throughout scripture we have found him in Leviticus through Aaron acting as the high priest.

Now let us recap and add to our lessons:

In Genesis, Jesus is the Seed of the woman.

In Exodus, Jesus is the Passover Lamb.

In Leviticus, Jesus is Our Great High Priest.
