The Rain is Gone

Today I went to pick up my new pair of glasses.  When I first tried them on it was shocking.  I had not seen that clearly in a long time, and I didn’t even know it.  I felt my eyes were saying, “Wow, so this is what we were missing.”  At the same time it took me a while to get used to them.  But, after a few hours it seems that I don’t even notice the change.

I thought this was an example of what it is like when trying on God’s truth for the first time.  You read the bible, and then you glare at the truth on the page.  At first it seems fuzzy, and you need a little clarification.  So you start with the facts.  What can you get from just reading the word.  The next step I take is to find the lesson in the verse/s.  If there is something to learn there I can form questions about that lead to those answers.  Finally there is a response needed.

That response for me is usually like putting on the truth I found and looking at my life through it.  What do I need to say to God about this truth in prayer.  What do I need to do in my life to apply what I have found.

At first it is shocking to try on the new truth I have found, but after wearing it on my heart and mind as I live life daily it meshes with my actions. Eventually I don’t even realize I am living the truth.

The best times are when I am in a storm of life, and I need something to anchor me on the stormy waters.  At these times I can examine what my circumstances are and run for the shelter of what God has to say about it.  After finding the truth I need to hold onto, everything clears up in my heart.

What truth do you need to anchor to today.   Get your bible.  Go to God in prayer asking Him to guide you into all truth.  What are the facts, lessons, questions, and the responses that are revealed.  When you are finished looking at the truth then it is time to look through it at life.

Dear friend, listen well to my words;
   tune your ears to my voice.
Keep my message in plain view at all times.
   Concentrate! Learn it by heart!
Those who discover these words live, really live;
   body and soul, they’re bursting with health.

Proverbs 4:20-22 The Message

Before you know it, in the midst of the storms of life, you will be singing, “I can see clearly now the rain is gone…” *Lyrics from I Can See Clearly by Johnny Nash
